Fast Company names Rahman as one of 100 most creative people in business
 

ACADEMY AWARD WINNING COMPOSER & MUSICIAN AR RAHMAN HONORED IN JUNE ISSUE OF FAST COMPANY MAGAZINE’S “100 MOST CREATIVE PEOPLE IN BUSINESS”

LOS ANGELES, MAY 19, 2009 – Academy Award winning composer and musician AR Rahman is honored in the June 2009 issue of Fast Company magazine as one of their “100 Most Creative People in Business.” Fast Company also recognized luminaries such as producer J.J. Abrams, director/producer/actor/writer Tyler Perry, fashion designer Marc Jacobs and author Nora Ephron.  The Fast Company recognition comes off the heels of AR’s recent inclusion in this month’s “TIME 100:  The World’s Most Influential People.” Rahman also participated in the gala, treating the crowd to a performance of his Oscar® winning anthem, “Jai Ho.”  To add to his recent accomplishments, AR was also nominated for “Best Song from a Movie,” for the 2009 MTV Movie Awards which will be broadcast live from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, CA on Sunday, May 31st at 9p.m./8p.m.CT.

This July, the music maestro is set to receive an honorary doctorate degree from Middlesex University in London, England.  Rahman’s KM Music Conservatory, which trains students in both Indian and Western musical styles, is in talks with Middlesex University to develop a bachelor’s program in music.

Rahman is also the subject of an upcoming in-depth profile from CNN “Talk Asia,” which will air on CNN International the week of May 20th and will repeat several times during the week. CNN “Talk Asia” is a weekly half-hour program hosted by Anjali Rao.  The program airs five times a day on CNN International and has global syndication of 220 million viewers.

A.R. Rahman captured the international spotlight for his work on Slumdog Millionaire after winning two Academy Awards for ‘Best Original Score’ and ‘Best Original Song’ for “Jai Ho.”  Rahman also became the first Indian artist to win a Golden Globe®, for ‘Best Original Score’ and took home numerous awards including the Critics Choice Award, Los Angeles Film Critics Award and a BAFTA. For his landmark work on the score and soundtrack, Rahman received critical praise from publications including TIME, Rolling Stone, The New York Times and The Los Angeles Times.

A true artist who has redefined contemporary Indian music, A.R. Rahman is an icon in the world of cinematic scoring. He has been hailed by TIME as the “Mozart of Madras” and is considered by many to be the pride of the Indian nation. He has also earned the designation of being one of the world’s top 25 all-time selling recording artists with sales of 100 million albums worldwide.
